Welcome to MnSHIP, Minnesota’s Statewide Historic Inventory Portal!
This website provides access to above-ground historic resources, including information on buildings, structures, landscapes, and linear resources. These resources are also referred to as the historic and architectural inventory, however, some unrestricted archaeological information is included. Detailed archaeological site records are maintained in the OSA Portal because full access is reserved for qualified archaeologists, historic preservation professionals, tribal historic preservation officers, and the Minnesota Indian Affairs Council, in accordance with Section 304 of the National Historic Preservation Act, Minnesota Statute § 307.08, subd. 11 and Minnesota Statute § 13.37.

Access Levels
MnSHIP has two levels of access: public and credentialed. Public access does not require an account. While public access does not allow for the creation or updating of records, it has most of the same search and analysis capabilities as the credentialed level. It is suitable for those who want to research information on inventoried properties.
Credentialed access requires a log-in using a SHPO-approved account. Credentialed users can enter new or update existing records, in addition to utilizing the app’s search and analysis capabilities. This level is intended for historic preservation professionals and others with a business reason to create or modify historic inventory records. For more information, please see SHPO's MnSHIP page
Statewide Historic Inventory Stewardship
The State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) maintains the statewide historic inventory pursuant to responsibilities outlined in the National Historic Preservation Act. The statewide inventory includes information on all resource types including archaeological resources. Above-ground inventories are maintained by SHPO within MnSHIP. Given some differences in recording above-ground resources from archaeological resources and access restrictions, archaeological site data is maintained in the OSA Portal. In conjunction with the SHPO, the Office of the State Archaeologist (OSA) maintains the official archaeological site inventory file for Minnesota.
